Who am I
My name is Alessandra, and my relationship with yoga hasn't always been easy.
My first encounter with yoga dates back to college. I decided to try a class, more out of curiosity than conviction.
I still remember the feeling: endless, slow, almost boring. I wondered how all those people could call it "a life-changing practice."
To me, at the time, it was just a series of strange poses and too much silence.
Then I started traveling.
Australia, backpacking, and freedom. Everyone seemed a bit hippyish to me, always talking about energy, vibrations, and chakras. I was just looking for a good coffee and a little adventure.
In New Zealand, I found a roommate who was an incurable yoga enthusiast.
Every morning: "Are you coming to yoga with me?" "No, thanks."
Until one day, she practically dragged me to a Bikram yoga class.
A sauna. Literally.
Sweat, music, strength, endurance.
And for the first time, I thought: okay, I like this.
Maybe it wasn't the "authentic yoga" everyone was talking about, but it was what I needed back then: to vent, to free myself, to rediscover my strength.
From there, I began to open up.
In Thailand, I took a Hatha yoga teacher training and a Vipassana practice in a Buddhist temple.
Days of silence, discipline, and deep listening.
In South America, I explored shamanic practices, learning that spirituality can also take many forms.
In Fuerteventura, I found consistency: the island wind, the sea, the slow pace that brought me back to the mat every day.
Then came Barcelona, and with it, Covid.
The deserted city, the silence in the streets, life suspended.
And me, at home, with so much time and a huge need to find an answer about everything that was happening.
So I decided to train as a yoga teacher.
It wasn't a linear path, nor was it always "zen."
I've argued with yoga, clashed with it, and doubted it a thousand times.
But every time, somehow, we found each other again.
Today, yoga is my safe space, my way to rediscover myself whenever I get lost.
I don't know if yoga has changed me or if it simply helped me remember who I really was.
But I know I couldn't live without it anymore.
